As the sun set on the residents of Kalyani Nagar and traffic brawled on at its usual pace, the Centre began to light up with the exuberance of yet another charming performance. Gowri Sundaresan and Pushpita Rath brought to life the flavours of Benaras and Rajasthani folk, thereby creating a charged and soul-stirring atmosphere. Accompanying the duo were Priya Ganguly with her harmonium, Mehul Chaure on the tabla and Janardhan Iyer on the violin.
The evening was in similar vein to last week’s programme where Sarita Mishra performed the most magical Odissi dance. The feeling created out of the two was mutual, but of course, music and dance are two sides of the same coin.
About the artists
Pushpita Rath has been actively associated with Pune music circles for the past 15 years as a vocalist, compere, organizer and teacher of Hindustani classical music. She is also a graded artiste for Akashvani, Delhi, for Bhajan & Geet. Gowri Sundaresan has given several performances. She is a student of Sri Suresh Patki and was awarded the ‘Sangeetha Visharad’ in Hindustani Classical Vocal music- which means “one who is accomplished in music”.
