Keeping the festive season alive, Guldasta-e-Urdu presents Hindustani Tyohar Urdu Shayaree Mein. The evening will feature Nasima Merchant, Dr. Mumtaz Peerbhoy, Kanchan Tripathi and Vijaya Tecksingani.
Held on the 26th of November, Gyaan Adab hosted the newest edition of Guldasta-e-Urdu, Hindustani Tyohar Urdu Shayaree Mein. Focusing on the representation of different Indian festivals in Urdu poetry, the event featured Nasima Merchant, Dr. Mumtaz Peerbhoy, Kanchan Tripathi and Vijaya Tecksingani.
After a brief introduction by Dr. Peerbhoy, the hosts took turns reading various shayaree that spanned holidays like Diwali, Eid, Christmas and Parsi New Year, not just delving into the religious connotations of the festival, but the camaraderie and kinship that draws all these communities together.
The appreciation from the crowd only encouraged the hosts to dramatize their readings more, and the emotive performance of these poems served to offer a sense of nostalgia; many eyes in the audience glazing over with a fond memory from years ago.
