Rock Metal Dhokra

December 12, 2014 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Dhokra art with a contemporary twist

Rock Dhokra and Pot Dhokra, Molten Metal Murals and Organic Casting, experience Devrai Art Village’s distinct art at Gyaan Adab. Hear stories of the evolution of each of these innovations along with some demonstrations and finished and semi-finished samples.
Devrai Art Village believes that tradition in art is part of a living, evolving culture and not frozen in the ice of the past. Preservation of traditional art forms implies adaptation and evolution in response to present needs and sensibilities as well.
About Devrai Art Village:
Devrai Art Village is a NGO that works towards sustaining adivasi art, culture, and a way of life that is fast disappearing. We create a space where modern design ideas can be incorporated into indigenous arts and crafts, creating quality artifacts truly Indian in spirit but universal in appeal.
Through a robust apprenticeship programme, they are training young adivasi youth and thus ensuring that skills pass on to the next generation. They are also documenting and exploring, using the film medium, the tribal way of living, their beliefs and culture and their tenuous relationship with Nature.

  • The exhibition will open with Mandakini Mathur, a filmmaker, teacher and social activist and a founder of Devrai Art Village sharing Devrai’s journey, followed by screening of a short film on the same.

Date: Friday, December 12, 2014 | Time: 6.30 pm
