20th February 2016, Saturday
Kashmir has always been known as a beautiful land cloaked in an air of mysterious beauty. There are many facets of its culture and its poetry by Kashmiri mystics that remain hidden from the public eye.
It was on this lovely Saturday evening that the perfect combination of story and song gave people a glance of Kashmir through a musical lens. Contemporary songs retaining a traditional flavour of Kashmir were sung and later accompanied by some interesting history and anecdotes behind each composition. Pragnya was accompanied by Shreyas Iyengaar on the lead guitar.
The songs ranged from the poetry of Kashmiri Sufi mystic poet Lal Ded, the love story of Habakhaatoon and King Yusuf Shah Chak to the evergreen Kashmiri classic Bhumbro which tells the story of Yemberzal and Nargis.
Pragnya Wakhlu is an award winning singer, songwriter and musician from India. Her songs are about inner reflection and issues she feels strongly about. Her solo act is unique as she makes use of live looping & uses her guitar as a percussive instrument. Known for her powerful vocals, soulful singing style and deep lyrics, Pragnya has been making waves on the music scene in India and abroad. She is also the front woman of the Pune-based band “Soul Strings”.
