‘If I am playing any music at all, it is jazz music.’
– Ginger Baker
The Pune Jazz & Blues Club returned on the forefront here at the Centre with this month’s event – Jazz Vocal Groups.
Apart from melody and rhythm, harmony is the third dimension that adds body to the song and widens the spectrum of sound. With improvisation at the root of jazz, harmonies are provided by the instruments. Vocal group harmony in jazz however provides a new sound, adding to the excitement of jazz! The focus of the programme was on an audio-visual presenting several vocal harmonic groups and illustrating their different styles as they sing popular standards.
