After discussing the magic of Swing Era last month, the Pune Jazz & Blues Club showed 2 episodes from the excellent documentary film on Jazz produced by Ken Burns.
The Washington Post had described it as “a sweeping exuberant panorama of Jazz history”. Spread across 10 episodes, we saw the Centre and its patrons celebrating Jazz’s turbulent history from its origins in blues and ragtime to bebop, fusion and the avant-garde. The way it combined vintage sounds, interviews with famous musicians and critics, interspersed with shots of period photos, movie clips and music along with engaging commentary, was nothing short of fascinating.
