Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

4th April 2021

Presentation  : Mohini Khot

About the Author: John Steinbeck grew up in the Salinas county of California and wrote affectionately of it all his life. He worked on ranches during vacations as a young man and witnessed at first hand the hardships and loneliness of the life of a ranch hand in the Depression years. He won the Nobel Prize in 1962. He is ranked amongst the great American writers and respected for his sympathetic portraiture of the working classes.
About the Book: Of Mice and Men is a novella about the friendship of two men in the difficult years of the Depression. Although minimalistic in its style of writing, it is still warm and touching.  It is written in 6 scenes that work almost like a stage play. Thus, it has been easily adapted into stage or cinema format. The novel transcends the limitations of its timeline and location and stands tall as an eternal comment on the ultimate loneliness of each human being.
About the Presenter: Mohini Khot has many years of teaching Literature to her credit. She enjoys spreading the love of literature by encouraging reading and sharing of insights into significant literature. She has published 2 books and many articles.
