Chhau Mask Making Workshop

ABOUT THE EVENT

Gyaan Adab in association with Heart for Art conducted a Chhau mask making workshop. A workshop that was originally planned for three hours was extended due to the enthusiasm of the participants to know and do more.

The facilitator for the event was Bhim Sutradhar from the Purulia district of West Bengal. He taught the participants to make the clay structure which acts as the support for the final mould. He also provided a complete mould to paint on, and a raw version of the mould. This way the participants now have a chance to recollect and repeat what they learnt at the workshop at their leisure.

The participants had loads to learn about the materials used. For example, did you know that a common binding agent used is a mixture of water with tamarind seed powder, boiled to a certain consistency?

We are excited for the next workshop. We hope you are too.

Date: Friday, 24th November

Time: 3-6 PM
