The Therapeutic Value of Art

Exhibition, workshops, discussions…
Creative arts are often used in therapy in conjunction with other approaches, to help express thoughts and feelings, to gain personal insights, and to generally enhance the therapeutic process.
Opening up through artistic expression can contribute to health and wellness. Sharing powerful or disturbing feelings is known to contribute to overall physical well-being. Sometimes just sharing a painful feeling or experience is enough to reduce anxiety, even if nothing else has changed. When words are difficult, art can provide an invaluable starting point for communication.
Because art therapy involves non-verbal communication, through creative expression, the emphasis is more on the process (rather than the product) to uncover and develop meaning – then the verbal communication can take place, or not.
