The Novel : Homegoing vividly portrays the African and African American experience in the aftermath of enslavement. It achieves this by tracing the descendants of two half-sisters, Effia and Esi, born into different villages in Ghana, for 8 generations. It won the National Book Critics Award for best first book and many more.
