Yatra is a passage through time, through movement, through words and song. A dance performance based on life, Yatra took the audience at Gyaan Adab on a mesmerizing journey. Viewers travelled along with the dancers through the four basic ends (purusharthas) of human life, as recognized by the Hindu tradition: Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha.
The dancers’ graceful and expressive movements scripted the story of the various stages of life and the search for the true meaning of existence. Different dance styles like Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kalaripayattu and Western Contemporary were explored at different stages to bring about the true essence of the story. These styles were complemented beautifully with indo-western fusion music including violin, drums, piano, sarod, sitar, flute and sarangi. The dance sequences were interwoven with a poetic script by Ravindra Matthadhikari in Hindi. The story led the audience to reflect on the changing, transient nature of life. Each stage of life was enacted by the dancers with movements and expressions, giving form to a riveting and imaginative performance.
The three dancers, Aparna Gandhi, Varda Vaishampayan and Priyasha Deshmukh, were appreciated for their beautiful journey and for a memorable evening by the overflowing audience at Gyaan Adab.
