SUKHAN

26th March 2016, Saturday

Compiled and directed by Om Bhutkar, Sukhan is a performance (mehfil) enriched by a plethora of compositions from Urdu literature, Hindustani Classical music and Sufi Music. It includes Urdu story telling (Daastaan-goi), recitation of Ghazals, Nazms and Urdu prose and musical renditions of Ghazals and Qawwalis.

On the evening of 26th March, Gyaan Adab stood testimony to the fact that literature, music and mood can go hand in hand, and how! The performance (compiled and directed by the brilliant Om Bhutkar) ended in a chaotic rendition of minutes of well-deserved applause.

As the act went on, one could see a constant interaction and dialogue between the audience and artists- which ensured that the audience participated and responded to the artists’ questions or even sang along with them. And many a times, they did! The content for the evening was chosen from a vast treasure of Urdu literature and shayari which includes the works of Mirza Ghalib, Hafiz Jalandhari, Nida Fazli, Saahir Ludhiyanavi, Ameer Khusrow, Joan Eliya, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Meer Taqi Meer, Mujtaba Hussain, Dagh Dehlavi, Muhommad Iqbal and many more.

The programme has had the honour of being the inaugural performance of the prestigious ‘Vinod and Sarayu Doshi National Theatre Festival, Pune’ in February this year. The team consisted of Jaydeep Vaidya, Nachiket Devasthali, Abhijeet Dhere, Swapnil Kulkarni, Devendra Bhome, Shantanu Ghule, Mandar Bagade, Ketan Pawar, Mukta Joshi, Divya Chaphadkar, Sanika Goregaokar, Adhish Paigude, Mahesh Talape, Shubham Jite, Rucha Shrikhande and Om Bhutkar.
