Performance poetry by Aisling Fahey

29th September 2015, Tuesday

Gyaan Adab stood witness to a Young Poet Laureate performing her work on a pleasant evening here at the Centre.

A sound brings alive a word, gets it off the page and resonates sit with the reader or the viewers. Aisling Fahey managed to create a magic medley of words and imagination as she weaved poems to life and enthralled the audience for the duration of the evening. “I want to make poetry more visible and more accessible, working with groups that don’t normally get the chance to express themselves. Sharing my own journey and providing them with an effective way to articulate their experiences,” she said. Mentored by English poets, Sharon Oakes, Bob Hicok and Joelle Taylor since she was 13, Fahey’s poem revolve around journeys- metaphorical and physical. For instance, she narrated one of her poems in which she narrated the exchange between a cab driver and the passengers.
