5th March 2016, Saturday
PARINATI was a Bharatnatyam based dance drama written in Hindi verse form and brought alive with Carnatic music. The evening was testimony to the fact that Aarthy had lost none of her magic even after being on a hiatus of two years.
Parinati is the story of a young woman who is traumatised over the loss of her family in a communal riot. The four-part dance drama depicts a woman’s journey from a perfectly happy person to someone who is filled with revenge and resentment.
The lyrics were written by Dr Avanish Yadav from Bareilly and the music had been set by Ms Manjula from Hyderabad. ‘Parinati’ had been performed earlier in Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bareilly, but the event here at the Centre was as special and charming as any.
With her striking expressions and powerful postures, Aarthy Natrajan attempts to bring out the negativism of communal disharmony and violence. She has been passionate about dancing from her school days and has learnt her basics from the Bharatnatyam dance classes conducted by Century Rayon Mahila Mandal, Kalyan. Aarthy has completed a four year Diploma course in Bharatnatyam at the renowned institution, Kalakshetra in Chennai. She is also trained in Carnatic vocal. Having performed across India, Thailand and Germany, Aarthy has won several accolades for her dance drama Parinati.
