On the 21st of December, 2020, the Guldasta-e-Urdu team came together to keep alive the poetry of Jnanpith Awardee, Ali Sardar Jafri. Twenty years after his demise, we find his work relevant even today for he consistently injected truth and philosophy in it. This lent his work a life that is indescribable.
Nasima Merchant, Dr. Mumtaz Peerbhoy and Kanchan Tripathi took the audience on a journey of his poems, proving the immortality of Ali Sardar Jafri’s labour of love.
The program commenced with a musical tribute to the poet. Our presenters sang ‘Humari pyari zaban Urdu‘, which was then followed by a brief introduction of the poet. The evening included recitals of Jafri’s poems from different time periods, interspersed with stories and explanations of his background and ideology.
The evening came to a close with our presenters sharing their thoughts on Jafri’s work and even shared stories where they had the opportunity to meet the poet. This brought the evening to a close.
