Longpii Pottery Workshop

Master Artisan Wungshungmi Shangrei

A hands on workshop by Master Artisan Wungshungmi Shangrei on understanding the basics of Longpii Pottery. Each participant will be provided raw materials required for making one small square cup and one cup (done by artist) to do cane piping on-spot. So each participant can take back two cups at the end of workshop.

Traditionally known as Longpii Ham, this style of pottery originates from Manipur. This black ware pottery uses hard serpentine rock mixed with clay, which is then hand moulded into pots, pans, etc without the use of a potter’s wheel. This can be used on fire directly and is microwave safe.

Wungshungmi Shangrei belongs to the Tangkhul Naga tribe of the village of Longpi in Manipur. He learnt the craft of pottery from his father and since then has moved to Delhi. He has been associated with TRIFED and has taken part in numerous craft and art exhibitions.
