On January 9, 2015, Gyaan Adab completed its first year. To celebrate this milestone that marks the emergence of a vibrant presence in Pune’s literary and cultural life, the centre organized an evening of poetry and the performing arts on January 8 for all those who have open heartedly supported and partnered with Gyaan Adab in the course of the year.
As the patrons walked into Gyaan Adab, they were treated to a live art performance by artist Abhishekh Nilamber. The evening of celebrations began with a beautiful dance to Ganesh Vandana by the dancers of Shambhavi International School of Kathak. It was followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the managing trustees and advisory committee of Gyaan Adab.
A journey through the year at Gyaan Adab was showcased through a presentation highlighting the many artistic programmes from literature, poetry and art to films, music, workshops and more. Mr. Randhir Khare, the Director, reflected on the year gone by and how Gyaan Adab has grown from infancy to adulthood, attracting the community to its welcoming space.
A Kathak fusion performance choreographed to Bikram Ghosh’s music had the audience mesmerized with the intricate dance movements and turns. Film and theatre artiste Naved Aslam recited his melodious Urdu poetry and his soulful words evoked the music of a beautiful language.
An open house discussion with the patrons led to significant feedback and positive suggestions. This was followed by valuable validations by the managing committee members – Satish & Mohini Khot, Mumtaz Peerbhoy and Dnyanada Naik. Founder and managing trustee Mr. Farookh Merchant spoke about Gyaan Adab’s progress and looked forward to a new and exciting year ahead. Along with sharing of ideas, steaming tea and coffee and snacks was welcomed to add to the warmth of sharing on a cool winter evening.
In a year, Gyaan Adab has grown into a space where people from all walks of life and social backgrounds can share in a common appreciation of meaningful artistic experiences. The next year promises to be enriching and exciting with art, literature and cultural programmes.
