Duniya Jise Kehte Hai Jadu Ka Khilona hai – Nida Fazli

Gyaan Adab in association with Guldasta-e-Urdu presented Duniya Jise Kehte hai Jadu ka Khilona hai. This event was a marriage of music and poetry commemorating the eternal works of Nida Fazli.

The programme was curated by Farook Merchant, Nasima Merchant and Ruksana Jamadar. The evening began with a brief introduction of the poet’s work and then delved into the various notable poems that he has written.

Known for his ability to evocatively cover a wide range of sentiments through his poems, he became popular among filmmakers and directors. This opened up a new stream of opportunities for the writer, lyricist and dialogue writer.

His popular works include Hosh waalon ko khabar Kya from Sarfarosh, Tu is tarah se meri zindagi mein from Aap to aise na the and Aa bhi jaa from Sur.

Video recording of the programme

The evening’s programme was particularly enjoyable as we had the participation of many Guldasta-e-Urdu memebers. We had many singers from our community who volunteered to send in their renditions of many of Fazli’s songs. In addition, we also had the melodious Dhanashree perform some of his most popular songs.

A regular Guldasta-e-Urdu spans nearly one hour, but in this scenario we had a two-hour programme planned and our audiences were with us on this journey despite the long duration. Our trustee, Nasima Merchant, is of the opinion that the spirit and contributions of a writer like Nida Fazli would be difficult to capture within an hour and would not do justice to his eternal works.

In a Q & A session towards the end, the audience members were of the opinion that the writer’s poems struck a chord as he used colloquial and simple language to communicate very poignant matters.
