Guldasta-e-Urdu, our monthly ritualistic gathering that celebrates Urdu poetry and literature, witnessed yet another mesmerizing evening. This one was dedicated to Mirza Assadullah Khan Ghalib. The classical Urdu and Persian poet was one the most, influential and revered poets of the Mughal Era.
The ghazal performance was by ‘Saaz’, a distinguished group of musicians from Pune. They are known for presenting musical renditions of ghazals and Nazms, keeping in line with the traditional form by using minimal instruments.
What ensued was timeless poetry, which has endured for all these years, amalgamated with rich and moving music in perfect harmony.
The singers for the evening were:
Dr. Shashikala Shirgopikar
Shruti Karandikar &
Gayatri Sapre Dhavale
Accompanying them:
Tabla: Arun Gawai
Harmonium: Apurva Petkar
