Two novelists explore the many shades of love, sexuality, attachment, self-discovery and the past. Siddharth Dasgupta and Shilpa Gupta, moderated by Pervin Saket, bring to the evening the themes and concerns of their novels.

Siddharth Dasgupta’s Letters from an Indian Summer tells the tale of Arjun Bedi- a globally-acclaimed photographer, and Genevieve Casta- an equally celebrated artist. Their romance, having first been kindled in Kathmandu, is rekindled after a fortuitous encounter in the Indian city of Poona. Through travels, adventures, memories, and encounters, together with letters from the past, we’re drawn into their lives and the devastating mysteries they harbor. Will these secrets end up destroying them, or is destiny too strong a force to let their connection succumb to such eventualities?

In Ananya: A Bittersweet Journey, Shilpa Gupta has managed to encapsulate an entire generation’s struggle of growing up in today’s often troubled times. Ananya is a not your regular, teenage girl-next-door. When it comes to boys, she has competition on her mind rather than romance. When distraction enters her life in the form of the handsome and charming Rohit, Ananya finds herself pregnant at the age of seventeen, thus learning that the world is a very different place once you are on its wrong side. Will Ananya be able to reverse the downward spiral that her life has plunged into and find meaning once again?

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Siddharth is a 33-year old Indian writer who fled a storied career in advertising for the warmth and potency of words. After more than a decade spent in foreign lands and after battling then vanquishing a particularly tumultuous brain tumor, he promptly set about putting pen to paper. He writes regularly on travel and lifestyle for a gamut of global publications.

Shilpa holds a post-graduate degree in management from IIM Ahmedabad. Apart from mathematics and finance, her interests lie in meditation, writing, painting and travel. While she has many published financial research papers to her credit, this novel marks her debut into the world of fiction.
