The Bhor Ghat Railway Line An Engineering marvel – 1856
November 27, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
This program is the first in a series of 5 Episodes on the idyllic Bhor Ghat section of the railways (Mumbai Pune sector) that most of us have travelled but never really thought about. When was it built? What were the challenges? How was it constructed? And by whom?
The first episode will take us through the mesmerising lower Bhor Ghat section from Karjat to Jumbrung Cabin – a living museum of historical artefacts, construction challenges and evidence of human determination against insurmountable conditions.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Apurva Bahadur is an ardent railway enthusiast and shutterbug who spends a great deal of time and effort studying and photographing railway sections and trains.
Apurva has extensively researched the Bhor Ghat railway, one of the most difficult railway sections anywhere in the world, which was initiated in 1856 and continuously improved over the last century… especially in the 50s and 80s.
He will treat us to the juicy details of the history, operation, technology, gradients, tunnels, viaducts and other elements that make up the magical Bhor Ghat railway line.
