MINDSCAPES – People, Pictures and Circumstance

“Copper is such a rich metal, in its raw state it speaks to me, the artist. Hold a sheet over a flame and ghostly images of earth colours, red, blue, green and purple spread over the sheet, a beautiful patina buried in its molecules from the day it was conceived in the rocky womb of the earth. I have a passion for this metal. I love to beat and mould, emboss, paint and wax it, then pass the palm of my hand over it to feel the contours of its soul.

As a child, my grandfather, James Peters, who lived in the forests of Burhanpur, in a red brick and wooden house, told me stories. He was a fantastic storyteller. One might not think it is important to be a storyteller, but to a child it is everything. My mother would scoff and comment, ‘There you go James, spinning one of your yarns. My children will grow up believing the unbelievable.’ And we did.
Do dragons fly? Twins of the Dragonbird, I have titled my favourite copper panel. A zebra striped horse in a room, watched by an intruder. The Dragonbird dancer dances to Grandpa’s tune. He loved to polka to his winding gramophone. A panther slept beneath his dining table and wolves and hyenas howled outside his front door, while his favourite Brahmani bull was coloured blue for a puja. This inspired Blue Bull bearing a wounded woman, and the deer that nibbled his custard apple hedge. Fantastic creatures and barely real people inspired his stories, and my copper pictures.”

GYAAN ADAB INVITES YOU TO AN EXHIBITION OF ANN DELORME’S EXTRAORDINARY WORKS IN COPPER WITH PATINA, ENAMEL AND METALLIC PAINTS.

Much of Ann’s copper work is inspired by Hungarian painter and sculptor Blaise, from whom she has learnt various techniques in patina and enamelling. She has had a show with him in the Hungarian Cultural Centre, Delhi in 2007, shortly after having a show of her copper panels in the Birla Art Gallery, Mumbai in 2007. In 2007she entered the 3rd International Enamel Triennale of Budafok in Hungary. She has submitted my enamel on copper works to the Reliance Harmony Show in 2007 and Mrs. Tina Ambani owns two of her enamel on copper works.
Ann periodically put up shows of her sculptures and paintings.
