India in the Persianate Age by Richard M Eaton
September 18 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
About the Book: Eaton engages with the interaction between two “transregional” worlds, a “Sanskrit” world and a “Persianate” one, showing that what we call “Indian” today is a blend of several cultures and sub-cultures. What emerges is the portrait of a social landscape at an economic and cultural level rather than a political history of kings, kingdoms and conquests. In other words, what it was like to have been living as an ordinary person during that period
About the Author: Richard Maxwell Eaton is a Professor of History at the University of Arizona, specialising in the social and cultural history of pre-modern India (1000-1800). This is his latest book.
About the Presenter: An alumna of Lady Shri Ram College and Miranda House, Runa Mukherjee has had a career in the civil services and corporate sector. Reading and art have been her abiding interests.
