GOND PAINTING WORKSHOP

April 22, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

GOND PAINTING WORKSHOP
by Gond Master Artist Ramesh Tekam

Gyaan Adab offers you the opportunity to create your own painting in a Gond painting workshop by the accomplished Gond artist Ramesh Tekam.

The Gonds are among the largest tribes in Central India, numbering about four million. They paint their walls with vibrant depictions of local flora, fauna and gods such as Marahi Devi and Phulvari Devi. Traditionally made on festive occasions, Gond paintings depict various celebrations, rituals and man’s relationship with nature. The artists use natural colors derived from charcoal, coloured soil, plant sap, leaves, and cow dung.

Ramesh Tekam is an accomplished Gond artist from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Painting professionally for over twenty years, his works are mostly depictions of nature, done in the characteristic colourful and detailed Gond style. Many of his works centre on the elephant. In the Museum of Mankind at IGRMS, Bhopal, his huge blue elephant instantly captures the visitor’s eye. With his bold strokes and use of vibrant colour Ramesh Tekam paints the different species of animals that he saw while growing up.
