FOR THE LOVE OF JAZZ

‘Jazz & the Indian Connection’

ABOUT THE EVENT

In their search for new areas of innovation, jazz musicians were enthralled by Indian classical music when Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan crossed shores back in the 60s. The exotic sounds from the sitar, improvisations on ragas accompanied by polyrhythms on the tabla created fresh excitement amongst the audience and jazz musicians. Collaborations between jazz and Indian musicians began to sprout.

Over the decades, this coming together of the two art forms has resulted into a deeper interwoven tapestry of sound Fusion has transformed into synthesis

In this session, we shall explore the development of this association over the past few decades and its current scenario.  The presentation will be handled by Ashwin Panemangalore.
