Eco-Friendly Sholapith Decoration Workshop

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

With Ganesh Chathurthi not so far away, the workshop helped participants make their own favourite Modaks, flowers, makhar and other decorations with a 100% biodegradable, eco-friendly and sustainable plant called Shola found in the marshlands of West Bengal. Sholapith craft is the delicate carving of the dried and shaved stem of the Shola plant that is used to make decorative items.

ABOUT THE ARTISAN

Rabindranath Halder is a 76 year old state awardee Sholapith Artist from Mahespur village in West Bengal. He along with his son Rathindra is one of the few people that practice this art and keep it alive. They travel all along the length and breadth of the country to take part in exhibitions and conduct workshops.
