About the books:
These are the first two of the four Neapolitan novels that have made Elena Ferrante the most talked about novelist today. They are novels of growing up, featuring the friendship of two girls from a poor neighbourhood in Naples who struggle to make their lives in a violent and stultifying society that seeks to keep women subdued. A first person narration at once sharp and frank, it seeks to “know” a character that is ultimately enigmatic and unknowable.
The discussion will be led by Dr. Mohini Khot.
