Dandi Yatra- A Photography Exhibition

Gyaan Adab invites you to a photography exhibition ‘Dandi Yatra’ which is a contemporary artist’s march with the aim to retrace the historical “Dandi March – the 387 km walk from Sabarmati to Dandi”, that launched history’s greatest nonviolent battle, the civil disobedience campaign, headed by the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, in 1930.

“My hope behind participating in this march was to better understand Bapu’s thought process behind the unique strategy for challenging the establishment. And eventually to bring it to bear on the field of visual arts to provoke debate and inquiries into the assumptions and ideologies prevalent today. The journey consisted of about 450 km and 25 days of walking through fields, highways, riverbeds and swamps. We stopped at the same villages as the first march, always attempting to stick to the Mahatma’s original route and places of stay.”

The exhibition will showcase Chaitanya’s photographs printed on Khadi. At the opening, Chaitanya will showcase images which are not a part of the exhibition and share the story of his journey. He will be in conversation with renowned artist Sujata Dharap about his work and journey.

About Chaitanya: Chaitanya became devoted to creating hand-crafted photographs while pursuing his doctorate in mathematics at Princeton. He first encountered alternative photographic processes in 2007 during a gallery visit in New York and fell in love. In May 2010, he left his professorial job at the University of Miami to return to India. He is now the director of the Goa Center for Alternative Photography (Goa-CAP).

The exhibition will be on till June 4, 2015 between 10 am and 6.30 pm. The Gallery will remain closed on Sunday.
