Long before the discovery of plastic and steel, metals were shaped into objects of everyday utility. They adorned every home, both affluent and impoverished.

What was utilitarian and pretty was also good for the society, the family and the individual– both maker and buyer. People were healthy and metals played a role in it.
Call it traditional wisdom if you will.

With the passage of time came convenience and a hurried living style. Plastic and steel became ubiquitous and metals were relegated to the attics or pawned off. What was necessary became redundant. What was indispensable, replaced.

That’s why we bring tradition to you in contours and containers palatable to your tastes, needs and homes.

Coppre reflects the legacy of metal craftspeople. It is the outcome of a creative collaboration with the Tambat metal craftspeople, to evolve a contemporary range of copper products that cater to the present while retaining intact, the heritage craft process.
Coppre works with the Craftspeople, by contemporizing their products for contemporary sensibilities thereby making the old relevant in the new. Coppre is social enterprise which is a culmination of a livelihood project initiated by INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) and Forbes Marshall Foundation. The project started in 2011.
The core of Coppre is design, which is Founder and Chief Designer of Coppre, Rashmi Ranade’s area of expertise. The cofounders are Chhanda Bihari (finance and operations), Sudakshina Sinha Banerjee, (Market Outreach) and Seemantini Mihir (Branding and E-commerce). The project is mentored by craft philanthropist Adhar Mirchandani.
The exhibition will open on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 6 pm with a talk and presentation on Coppre.
The exhibition will remain on till Sunday, March 22, 2015
