The Trial  by Franz Kafka

About the Author: Born in Prague, Franz Kafka  (1883 – 1924) is known for his evocation of the atmosphere of dread and anxiety. He fuses elements of realism and the fantastic in his writing.

About the Book: One of his best known works, The Trial tells the story of Josef K., a man arrested and prosecuted by a remote, inaccessible authority, with the nature of his crime revealed neither to him nor to the reader. It has been interpreted as exploring themes of alienation, existential anxiety, guilt and absurdity.
