ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This workshop will give participants Hands on experience of Chhau Mask Making and will be followed by a Display cum Sale of the artist’s work.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Bhim Sutradhar, is a Chau mask artist from Purulia, West Bengal. He has exhibited his craft at many exhibitions around the country. He has conducted workshops with Heart for Art earlier in Pune & Mumbai. He is part of a family that painstakingly carries on this tradition with his brothers.

ABOUT THE CRAFT

Traditionally these Masks form an integral part of Chhau Dance, a genre of Indian tribal martial dance which is popular in the Indian states of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The masks are completely handmade. They are made using clay, mud and paper.
