A Weekend of Theatre

Indulge in theatre at Gyaan Adab over two days of Urdu/ Hindi and English plays showcased by three different theatre productions.
SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 2015
An evening of English threatre showcasing works by established playwrights as well as new original writing.
Orange Reason will present:
The Bear by Anton Chekhov (45 mins)
When Boorish Gregory Smirnov, who after repeated bitter experiences in love has sworn not to love ever, meets Elena Popova, who has vowed to be true to her dead husband’s memories forever, sparks fly and pistols are drawn (literally). How will it end?
Sure Thing by David Ives (12 mins)
A short play about a chance meeting between a man and a woman in a restaurant and how they pave through the minefield of conflicting interests, perceptions, likes, dislikes, political affiliations, nationality, origins, etc. etc.
Orange Reason, is a production house which deals with alternative content for audio visual mediums and debuted in theater production last year (May 2014). Orange Reason has produced 7 short films till date and 3 of them have been screened in various national and international film festivals (including the prestigious IFFI, Goa).

Moonbeam Factory Theatre will present:
Sometimes, Stillness (10 min)
Sometimes, all you need is stillness to feel the chaos within. A poetic dance drama with contemporary dancers and djembe music, it questions choices and perspectives.
Socrates’ Last Wish (10 min)
“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” – Socrates
Some lessons can’t be taught in a classroom. An idealistic professor mocks the Indian education system.
Part of You (10 min)
What happens when you can’t accept a part of yourself? Prateek finds out when he is forced to come to terms with his own reality.
Moonbeam Factory Theatre is a performing arts initiative committed to originality, freedom of expression and community outreach. They believe in exploring theatre through experimentation and amalgamation of different art forms. Along with conducting workshops, they have staged their award winning plays at various places in Pune as well as part of the internationally renowned Short+Sweet festival in Chennai and the Commonwealth Newsboy Project in Glasgow.

An evening of Hindi/ Urdu theatre
Nishaat will present:
Pyaasa Samander (60 min)
Pyaasa Samander is a Hindi/ Urdu play based on the lives and love story of two legendary poets of the 20th century, Sahir Ludhianvi and Amrita Pritam
‘Nishaat Theatre and Films’ which was established in 1978 has been successfully staging Hindi, Marathi and Urdu plays since. These plays have been performed at local, state and national venues.

Donation pass: Rs. 150/-
