DESCRIPTION:Dated 8th June 2020\n7.30-8.30 pm \nA Tribute to Padma Shri Mujtaba Husain\, a well-known Urdu author\, humorist and satirist who died recently in Hyderabad at the age of 87. His career lasted over 54 years and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2007. \nHusain’s satirical works were translated into Oriya\, Kannada\, Hindi\, English\, Russian and Japanese. Different scholars did around 12 Ph. Ds on Hussain across India during his lifetime. His travelogue ‘Japan Chalo\, Japan Chalo’ and his book ‘America Ghaans Kaat Raha Hai’\, were some of the unique contributions to Urdu literature. \nDr. Mumtaz will lead a discussion on the works of Padma Shri Mujtaba Husain.\nMrs. Shamshad\, Mrs. Kanchan\, Mrs. Vijaya\, Miss. A musician known for his melodious rendition of Hindi songs and ghazals\, Dr. Latay never fails to bring a sense of sukoon or calmness to his performances. Something we could all use during these times. \nAfter witnessing the magic of his voice during a live event\, we are thrilled to have him back for an online program where we celebrate the greats of Indian music. \n \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nDr. Salil Latay’s journey with music began at home with his family’s deep interest in it. His first performance was at age five and he soon added the harmonium and synthesizer to his musical inventory. It was in the year 2003 that he converted his passion into his profession. Since then he performed numerous times across the country. \nIn the words of the artist\, “My concert is a one to one concert. It is an absolute individual performance and definitely not a musical orchestra or a band. It is simple and straight.
