SUMMARY:For The Love of Jazz
DESCRIPTION:GYAAN ADAB \nIn Association with \nPune Jazz and Blues Club \nPresents \nFor the Love of Jazz \n\nHemant Sirur will present Benny Goodman\, who was known as the ‘King of Swing’. He will focus on the concert in Carnegie Hall in January of 1938 and its 40th Anniversary reprise in 1978. He will also speak of the tremendous contributions of Benny Goodman to promote racial harmony in the USA of the 1930s. He was the first white band-leader to employ black musicians in the original Benny Goodman Quartet. \nJazz until then was played mostly in dives\, bars and easy houses. By performing in Carnegie Hall\, Benny Goodman also broke the class barrier bringing jazz into the mainstream of American society and making it a respectable form of music. \nThose who love Benny Goodman’s Swing music will enjoy listening to recordings of live renditions of old favourites like ‘Don’t Be That Way\, ‘Sing Sing Sing’\, “Memories of You’ and many others. \n\nDATE: Sunday\, 3rd June\nTIME: 11 AM\nEntry Free \n
