SUMMARY:The Voice: An Amazing Instrument
DESCRIPTION: The Voice \nAn Amazing Instrument \n(For the Love of Jazz) \nAs an instrument the human voice produces a wide variety of pitches\, offers complex tonality and has great percussive capacity. The melodic lines are often variations on scale\, arpeggio fragments\, stock patterns and riffs as in the case with instrument improvisation. The choice of scat syllables influences pitches articulation\, colouration and resonance of the vocal performance. \nPrabhakar Mundkur will use performances of well-known jazz singers to demonstrate how they use their voices much like the instruments that are used to play jazz. \nAbout the Presenter \nBombay-based Prabhakar Mundkur is an accomplished guitarist who has recorded with the great Remo Fernandes and Asha Puthli back in the 1960s. His musical journey began with Indian classical and transited through western classical and rock before he settled into Jazz\, the music he finally learned to love and learn about.
