SUMMARY:The art of Eric Weets
DESCRIPTION:An inspiring exhibition that features the breathtakingly original work of the reclusive Belgian artist Eric Weets who has lived and worked in the shadows of the city of Pune\, creating art that is bound to remain and be appreciated long after his time. \nEric Weets was born in Belgium in 1951. Brought up by his maternal grandparents and severely dyslexic\, he failed at almost everything in school.  He trained as a diamond cutter\, but eked a living doing odd jobs to sustain his growing interest in painting and in jazz and\, later\, in electronic music. He eventually settled in India\, where he met Filomina Pawar who represents him to a world from which he has increasingly withdrawn. \nAccording to Julian Spalding (British art critic & writer)\, Eric Weets is one of those rare people – a genuine original.  Everyone is unique\, just as every ice crystal in a snow drift is unique – but few individuals develop an expressive language that is uniquely their own.\n \nAt the inauguration of the exhibition there will be an audio-visual\, a short film of the artist in the process of his creation and an interactive session with Filomina Pawar\, his partner and promoter. \n The exhibition will remain open from 16th to 22nd January 2016

SUMMARY:Bengal Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Gyaan Adab offers you the opportunity to create your own painting in a Bengal painting workshop by Patua artist Suman Chitrakar. \nThe workshop will begin with a small introductory session by Suman and his wife Rupsona\, explaining the history of Bengal Pattachitra. Once participants are familiar with the stories\, a live performance of ‘Pater Gaan’ (one or two songs/ ballads) will be presented. The storytelling and singing will help participants create new stories and turn them into performances\, thereby instilling in them the confidence to create and continue the performative aspect of Bengal painting’s tradition. \n  \nSuman Chitrakar is a young Patua artist from West Bengal. He started painting nine years ago at the age of twenty with his mentor Jagdevji. Suman carries the lineage of ‘folk’ artists who paint long\, vertical scrolls and compose verses. He has conducted workshops on Bengal Pattachitra in Delhi with the Happy Hands Foundation\, in Kolkata with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (an organization under Ministry of Culture)\, a workshop organized at the Victoria Memorial Hall and in Goa with the Kala Academy. \n  \n Learn a traditional art and create your own painting for 550/- \nRegister: info.gyaanadab@gmail.com/ 020 65217333\n \n\n
