SUMMARY:So you want to be published\, huh?
DESCRIPTION:Writer Gouri Dange takes the lid off the ‘mystique’ of being a published writer and all that jazz. Whether you are published\, unpublished\, self-published\, overpublished\, underpublished\, maybe-published\, pretend-published… you will recognize many of your secret ignominies as well as silent triumphs in these hilarious readings from her diary. \nAgents\, publishers\, editors\, illustrators\, fellow-writers\, marketing and accounting execs\, the press\, reviewers\, bookstores\, celeb-guests\, readers…she carpet-bombs the entire three-ringed circus that is Indian publishing.\nThe idea of sharing a laugh with readers and other writers\, aspiring as well as published\, by looking at the absurdities and non sequiturs of the publishing world\, she says\, “is to turn neurotic misery into common grief” (to paraphrase Freud).\nGouri Dange is the author of five books – three fiction and two non-fiction; a book on parenting issues between grown children and their parents and a sequel to Three-Dog Night is in the offing. She has long-running social satire and parenting columns in Pune Mirror and Lounge-Mint. \nEntry Free

SUMMARY:LEAVES FROM MY JOURNAL-An art exhibition by Bharati Kapadia
DESCRIPTION:Gyaan Adab invites you to the opening of noted artist Bharati Kapadia art exhibition\, Leaves from My Journal. At the opening\, the artist will present ‘Untold Stories’\, a solo performance which is a collage of numerous memories\, ideas\, observations\, comments\, through which the audience can get a glimpse into the mindscape of the artist. \nAbout the art exhibition:\nLeaves from My Journal is the consequence of an on-going process. They were born as an idea to begin with\, because Bharati’s nomadic soul was on the prowl again. Now and then\, she senses this urge in her which prods her to pry herself loose\nfrom existing moorings and venture out into the unknown. After her last body of work Staging the Sets\, she had been feeling the need to change the process and the approach to the way she worked. Wanting to travel light so that she could play in greater freedom\, she chose to work with smaller format and a restricted colour palette.\nIn each leaf\, the stepping stone is always a fabric form placed within the space of handmade paper. This is the fuel she provides her imagination to begin the process of infusing the quality of life into her work. And the voyage begins. \nAbout the performance: \nUntold Stories is a script\, a kind of story\, non-linear in structure and layered in narrative style\, of implicitly connected memories\, episodes\, ideas\, observations\, references and comments\, ranging from personal to social and political\, from topical to historical\, fact to fiction and other such. It is a tongue-in-cheek rendition\, informal in temper that envisages an oral\, performance-based milieu for its presentation.\nMyself\, a fellow traveller\, at this juncture in her life\, ventures into the recesses of her mind. Excavating layers of memory and insights gleaned over a lifetime. As she treads deeper into this territory\, spaces which define what being human implies\, begin to unwind: fact and fallacy\, longing and loss\, enticement\, indictment\, death\, defiance and quest for freedom get entangled and entwined into a complex network of anecdotes.\nThis performance is directed by Jim Sarbh. \nAbout the Artist: \nBharati Kapadia\, known for her innovative approach to materials\, mediums and techniques in creating her art\, has exhibited widely in India and abroad. Her last solo show STAGING THE SETS was shown in Mumbai\, Vienna and Munich in 2008.\nShe has participated in several group exhibitions including THE SEARCH WITHIN showcasing works of 10 Indian and 10 Austrian artists\, Pernegg and Salzburg in Austria and National Gallery of Modern Art\, New Delhi and Mumbai in India\, 1998; OBJECTS OF WONDER\, The Brewster Project\, 2003; MAKING AN ENTRANCE curated by Ranjit Hoskote for Kala Ghoda Arts festival\, 2000; 8th European Patchwork Meet\, Alsace\, France. She was invited by Transcultural Exchange\, Boston to participate in their 2002 and 2004 international art initiatives\, THE COASTER PROJECT and THE TILE PROJECT\, and was awarded the Apex Art International Residency\, New York\, in 2001.\nShe has initiated and created art related projects and presented slide lectures at art institutions and museums in India and abroad. Her work is in several collections in India\, Austria\, Germany\, Switzerland\, UK and USA. \nOpening of the art Exhibition with the performance: Saturday\, March 14\, 2015 at 6.30 pm \nThe exhibition will be on till Thursday\, March 19\, 2015

SUMMARY:The Water Bearers by Coppre
DESCRIPTION:A toast to better Health\nGyaan Adab invites you to an exhibition of exquisite copper utility pieces.\nLong before the discovery of plastic and steel\, metals were shaped into objects of everyday utility. They adorned every home\, both affluent and impoverished. \nWhat was utilitarian and pretty was also good for the society\, the family and the individual– both maker and buyer. People were healthy and metals played a role in it.\nCall it traditional wisdom if you will. \nWith the passage of time came convenience and a hurried living style. Plastic and steel became ubiquitous and metals were relegated to the attics or pawned off. What was necessary became redundant. What was indispensable\, replaced. \nThat’s why we bring tradition to you in contours and containers palatable to your tastes\, needs and homes. \nEmbrace traditional wellness and Cool off summer with copper-charged water\n\nCoppre reflects the legacy of metal craftspeople. It is the outcome of a creative collaboration with the Tambat metal craftspeople\, to evolve a contemporary range of copper products that cater to the present while retaining intact\, the heritage craft process.\nCoppre works with the Craftspeople\, by contemporizing their products for contemporary sensibilities thereby making the old relevant in the new. Coppre is social enterprise which is a culmination of a livelihood project initiated by INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) and Forbes Marshall Foundation. The project started in 2011.\nThe core of Coppre is design\, which is Founder and Chief Designer of Coppre\, Rashmi Ranade’s area of expertise. The cofounders are Chhanda Bihari (finance and operations)\, Sudakshina Sinha Banerjee\, (Market Outreach) and Seemantini Mihir (Branding and E-commerce). The project is mentored by craft philanthropist Adhar Mirchandani.\nThe exhibition will open on Friday\, March 20\, 2015 at 6 pm with a talk and presentation on Coppre.\nThe exhibition will remain on till Sunday\, March 22\, 2015\nTimings: 21st March – 11 am to 7 pm 22nd March – 11 am to 2 pm

SUMMARY:Book Launch Fallen Standing: My life as a schizophrenist
DESCRIPTION:Right now life sucks. I hate it. It seems so much easier to give up… \nJust an hour ago I came out of the loo and stood still. I couldn’t speak or yell or make any sound or move to call for help… I stood leaning towards my left against the wall as my entire right went numb and limp. And I just stared into space… \nFirst the mind screws up… Then there is this body which has a life of its own… \nToday I fell … while standing. My body still held on to the wall yet it was fallen. And there was nothing the mind could do. \n  \nGyaan Adab invites you to the launch of Reshma Valliapan’s book. \n  \nReshma was diagnosed with schizophrenia when she was 22. In this extraordinary\, first-of-its-kind account she writes about her experience of living with therapies and medication\, struggling to make sense of her situation\, surviving suicide attempts\, finding support groups — and finally coming into her own. \nWith rare candour and clarity she recounts her sense of being ‘different’ as a teenager\, while rebelling against all attempts to pigeon-hole and discipline her. Her will to overcome the tremendous odds she faced enabled her to gain unexpected insights into her condition\, and her story\, told in utterly unsparing prose\, is courageous\, powerful\, eloquent and poignant. \n  \nAbout the author: \nRESHMA VALLIAPPAN is founder-director of Mind Arcs and The Red Door that work on breaking barriers between normalcy and madness\, along with a platform that advocates for the rights of persons with mental illness. She was elected Ashoka Fellow in 2014\, and received the WIN Woman of the Year Award\, 2012-2013\, in Pune. She is also an INK Fellow. A Drop of Sunshine\, a film made on Reshma’s recovery\, was screened in 2011. Reshma is currently pursuing a double master’s in Philosophy and Science and Religion. \nEntry Free

SUMMARY:‘PASSAGES’ - an art exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Remember the child who read a book hiding under her blanket with a torch\, the one who hid his story book inside a text book during class\, or the one who just wouldn’t put down the book even at the dining table? So many books and how they have enthralled us. They were certainly more than mere stories; books helped us fashion worlds we could dive into and wander endlessly.\nIn recent times\, the growing popularity of the internet and digital media has widely influenced our lifestyles\, replacing good old books. Mystery novels\, comic books and magazines are just fondly remembered relics. The Rollin’ Canvas and associated artists have therefore come together to celebrate literature and all that it has given us.\n“Passages”\, a conceptual art abstraction on iconic books and characters is an occasion to reminisce\, reflect and cherish the written word. \nAbout The Rollin’ Canvas (T.R.C)\nThe Rollin’ Canvas is a brand started by brushwork artist Pooja Shah in 2014. TRC mixes street-art with silhouettes to bring unique and custom-made paintings that are fun and memorable. TRC uses a distinctive painting style which mashes various forms of art\, a lot of colour\, fun and silhouette style paintings to bring customised artwork that can be used anywhere and that can be painted on any surface. TRC also encourages other young artists and collaborates with them to promote the art culture in Pune. \nAbout the Artists:\nPooja Shah is the founder of The Rollin’ Canvas. She has been painting for several years now\, working with a unique style that now has become her signature. TRC’s work has been solidly appreciated\, and Pooja has had a chance to contribute to important milestones in people’s lives. TRC’s paintings have been gifted for birthdays\, anniversaries and other special occasions\, which makes Pooja feel like she contributes directly to the lives of her work’s buyers. \nTara Chandi has always liked to work with varying textures and styles to create thought-provoking art. Tara’s work reflects the chaotic\, quirky and lost references that she stumbles upon every day. She works with minimal colour schemes\, geometric shapes and surrealism to narrate untold stories. \nRohit Ranade has been dabbling with various visual art forms since childhood. His preferred mediums are charcoal\, pens and acrylic paints and he experiments with different art genres. As a comic book fan and game designer\, Rohit’s art is influenced by street art\, games and grunge.
