SUMMARY:The Therapeutic Value of Art
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition\, workshops\, discussions…\nCreative arts are often used in therapy in conjunction with other approaches\, to help express thoughts and feelings\, to gain personal insights\, and to generally enhance the therapeutic process.\nOpening up through artistic expression can contribute to health and wellness. Sharing powerful or disturbing feelings is known to contribute to overall physical well-being. Sometimes just sharing a painful feeling or experience is enough to reduce anxiety\, even if nothing else has changed. When words are difficult\, art can provide an invaluable starting point for communication.\nBecause art therapy involves non-verbal communication\, through creative expression\, the emphasis is more on the process (rather than the product) to uncover and develop meaning – then the verbal communication can take place\, or not.\nSusan Khare\nEducationalist\, photographer\, art therapist and cross cultural communicator\, Susan Khare has always focused on visual art in all her work.\nHaving been working in India since 1988 her career has evolve to meet a variety of needs in a changing India. A decade ago she shifted from teacher training to art therapy.\nShe has travelled extensively in rural and urban areas researching themes such as puppetry and jewellery\, nomadic communities and traditional art. \nSam Bullough\nArtist\, photographer\, designer\, Sam Bullough uses art as a therapeutic medium in his professional and personal life.\nHis art work ranges from spontaneous imagery to pieces that have been meticulously researched and slowly evolved over years.\nA multi-disciplinary artist\, Sam explores a wide variety of materials\, including paint\, collage and masks\, and themes. \nSchedule of events:

SUMMARY:Yatra - The Journey Called Life
DESCRIPTION:Gyaan Adab invites you to a unique ballet\, Yatra which is based on the four basic ends (purusharthas) of human life\, as recognized by the Hindu tradition: Dharma\, Artha\, Kama and Moksha. It is a fast-paced and lively ballet based on the various stages of the protagonist’s life as he searches for the true meaning of his existence. It reflects upon the futility of holding on to one’s ego and material possessions as well as the ever changing\, transient nature of life. Each stage commands a dance style to bring out its true essence. A variety of dance styles have been thus explored: Bharatnatyam\, Odissi\, Kalaripayattu and Western Contemporary. These styles are set to indo-western fusion music including violin\, drums\, piano\, sarod\, sitar\, flute and sarangi. Dance sequences are interwoven with a brilliantly written script (prose and poetry) by Ravindra Matthadhikari in Hindi. Like a string of pearls\, each stage of life is carefully enacted\, giving ample scope for personal interpretation: \nCuriosity and Learning\nPower and Ambition\nLust and Desire\nAwareness and Introspection\nLove and Liberation \nDonation pass: 150/- \nTo book your passes call Nadia – 9850079911 or Aryaa – 9604349063
