SUMMARY:Poetry Workshop - The gift of the written word
DESCRIPTION:The philosopher Gaston Bachelard tells us\, “The words of the world want to make sentences\,” so we may further ask the questions- “And what do the sentences want to make? What do our sentences want to make? Do they want to make essays? Do they want to make stories? Do they want to run away and become poems perhaps? \nThe gift of the written word is open to all poets and lovers of poetry ages 15 and up. This workshop is designed to encourage questions and to seek a conversation with poets\, their poems\, images and ideas as a means to unlocking our literary talent. This workshop is about finding voice and wings for the sentences that want to run away and become poems. There is tremendous talent within each and every one of us. This workshop will put us in\ntouch with all the literary genius in our midst. \nWe will write poems and possibly\, stories\, essays\, plays or begin work on novels and maybe even epics\, if our lines run away and ask to take those forms. We will read and critique works of world literature\, seek dialog with authors great and small and find inspiration in their lives and works to unlock our hidden talents. We will close the workshop with gift giving. We will hold an open mic and gallery walk at the end of the workshop to share and display the fruits of our labor and give away our precious gifts of the written word to the world through a celebration of voice\, vision and imagination. \nMukta Sambrani\nBiography\nMukta has earned an MFA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. DESCRIPTION:Meet Ms. Ayra Krishnamurthy\, her precocious cat and her dog eat deal environment. Ayra Krishnamurthy is a dusky\, slightly neurotic\, convent educated\, pretty girl’s sidekick that always wanted to be an Art Historian. But on one monsoon day in July\, she is suddenly sent packing from Mumbai to Tuscany to buy a vineyard for a star client. What should have been a four day trip turns into a two week treasure hunt that finds her amidst midnight wine deals\, dodgy vintners\, rolling Tuscan hills and one playboy millionaire who is looking to taste more than just the wine. \nAbout the Author: \nReshma Krishnan Barshikar\nAfter finishing her A Levels at Bridgine School\, Windsor\, and getting a BA (Hons) at Oxford Brookes University\, Oxford\, Reshma Krishnan Barshikar started her career as a Journalist for India’s national newspaper The Hindu but left mid-career to pursue an MBA at the Indian School of Business that led to a successful career in Investment Banking. She worked in Treasury for about 3 years after which she moved into Investment Banking at Avendus Capital\, for about 5 years before quitting her job to travel. She travelled extensively for two years – Europe\, China\, and the US\, during which time she conceptualized her novel. Simultaneously she also honed her skills as a Travel Writer\, and has since contributed to India Today Travel Plus\, SilverKris\, Harper’s Bazaar\, Grazia\, National Geographic Traveller and The Hindu Business Line\, where she profiles entrepreneurs for the Life section.
