SUMMARY:The Many Shades of Love
DESCRIPTION:A LIVELY FACE-OFF\, FREE-WHEELING DISCUSSION\, READINGS\, AND REFLECTIONS. \nTwo novelists explore the many shades of love\, sexuality\, attachment\, self-discovery and the past. Siddharth Dasgupta and Shilpa Gupta\, moderated by Pervin Saket\, bring to the evening the themes and concerns of their novels. \n  \n \nSiddharth Dasgupta’s Letters from an Indian Summer tells the tale of Arjun Bedi- a globally-acclaimed photographer\, and Genevieve Casta- an equally celebrated artist. Their romance\, having first been kindled in Kathmandu\, is rekindled after a fortuitous encounter in the Indian city of Poona. Through travels\, adventures\, memories\, and encounters\, together with letters from the past\, we’re drawn into their lives and the devastating mysteries they harbor. Will these secrets end up destroying them\, or is destiny too strong a force to let their connection succumb to such eventualities? \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nIn Ananya: A Bittersweet Journey\, Shilpa Gupta has managed to encapsulate an entire generation’s struggle of growing up in today’s often troubled times. Ananya is a not your regular\, teenage girl-next-door. When it comes to boys\, she has competition on her mind rather than romance. When distraction enters her life in the form of the handsome and charming Rohit\, Ananya finds herself pregnant at the age of seventeen\, thus learning that the world is a very different place once you are on its wrong side. Will Ananya be able to reverse the downward spiral that her life has plunged into and find meaning once again? \n  \n  \n  \nABOUT THE AUTHORS \nSiddharth is a 33-year old Indian writer who fled a storied career in advertising for the warmth and potency of words. After more than a decade spent in foreign lands and after battling then vanquishing a particularly tumultuous brain tumor\, he promptly set about putting pen to paper. He writes regularly on travel and lifestyle for a gamut of global publications. \nShilpa holds a post-graduate degree in management from IIM Ahmedabad. Apart from mathematics and finance\, her interests lie in meditation\, writing\, painting and travel. While she has many published financial research papers to her credit\, this novel marks her debut into the world of fiction. \n  \nENTRY FREE

SUMMARY:Elvis sings the blues
DESCRIPTION:Gyaan Adab invites you to listen to an evening of recorded music to remember the King of Rock and Roll! \nWhile Elvis is famous for his Rock n Roll and soft romantic ballads\, he sang a lot of blues\, in the studio\, rehearsals\, and also at home. He was deeply influenced by the blues\, right from his childhood in Tupelo\, Mississippi and in fact\, the first commercial song he ever recorded in Memphis\, was the blues song “That’s All Right (Mamma)”. He recorded many blues songs throughout his career and we feature a few of these numbers\, which are comparatively unknown\, including some rare versions available only on the special collectors label FTD/ SONY and other sources. \nOperating out of Pune and Mumbai\, the official Elvis Presley Fan Club of India (EPFC) was founded informally in the early 60s’. Over the years\, the club has organised several concerts and shows. The Club meets informally at least four times a year and also on special request. Those interested can contact us to set up private music or movie session.

SUMMARY:FOUR- Art exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Gyaan Adab presents FOUR- an eclectic collection of four new artists. The Centre’s walls will be adorned by four talented artists\, who have been indulging in one form of painting or another since the past few years. The works of Geeta Rajput\, Samarin Sayed\, Shriparna Sarkar and Sneha Potdar will be put on display from: \nABOUT THE ARTISTS \n\nGeeta started dabbling with water colours alongside her father at an early age\, which created an interest that refused to deplete.\nCurrently working as a Visual Art teacher at an IB school\, Samarin’s paintings are an interplay of the subconscious and conscious. Ever since she was a child\, her mother’s paintings were her windows into luscious nature and she was the one who introduced her to the word ‘abstract’.\nA graphic designer by profession\, Shriparna’s work presented here is both personal and exploratory in nature\, and has been composed over a period of nearly seven years.\nSneha’s tryst with art began since her school days as she began creating\, appreciating\, exploring\, absorbing & learning through painting.\n\nENTRY FREE

SUMMARY:Art exhibition- From the city of the Earthmovers
DESCRIPTION:Gyaan Adab celebrates the Spirit of Mumbai (our sister city) with art and poetry. Featuring the painter-poet Anjali Purohit with her exhibition: FROM THE CITY OF THE EARTHMOVERS – Some Retrievals\, Some Remainders\, Some Reminders. \n  \nThe present show\, From the City of the Earthmovers – Some Retrievals\, Some Remainders\, Some Reminders tries to record and retrieve that which we are losing in the process of this city transforming so rapidly. Mills give way to malls\, expansive chawls with teakwood rafters and wide wooden staircases worn down by several generations of footfall make way for cold towers of glass and chrome\, the welcoming Irani cafe at every street corner is eased out by lounges\, restobars and pubs\, communities scatter before the massive JCB earthmovers …and the megapolis carries out many erasures. In the face of this rapid transformation we obliterate many aspects that have symbolized the ethos of the city. \n  \nAbout the artist \nAnjali Purohit is an artist and a writer based in Mumbai. She has been exhibiting her paintings in India and abroad for the past 15 years. This exhibition tries to record and retrieve that which we are losing in the process of this city’s transformation. Her paintings seek to portray a few reminders from the margins and from the marginalized. \n

SUMMARY:Romance of the Ghazal
DESCRIPTION:Gyaan Adab romances the charm of Urdu through an evening of ghazals with the captivating voice of Jawad Askari. \nThough today\, people barely listen to the ghazals of Meer\, Jigar or Iqbal\, the ghazal as a form is still well loved. Thanks to the late Jagjit Singh who insisted that poets wrote simplified ghazals so that they could be understood and appreciated by everyone\, this romantic form got a new lease of life. The celebrated Jawad Askari continues the tradition and reaches out to one and all with his renditions of ghazals. \nAbout the performer \nBorn and brought up in Mumbai\, Jawad Askari hails from an Iranian family. He found his calling in Urdu literature and has never stopped enjoying the language in every way possible.  It lured him towardsmusic as well and he learnt the art of creating and maintaining ‘sur’. His guru was Ustaad Taj Ahmed Khan\, renowned mostly amongst the top class classical singers of India. He has also learnt the art of Persian and Urdu calligraphy and has served 14 years in Hong Kong in different legal government sectors as an Urdu-Persian-Hindi-English (Supreme Court) registered court interpreter. \n  \nENTRY FREE
