SUMMARY:India in the Persianate Age by Richard M Eaton
DESCRIPTION:  \nAbout the Book: Eaton engages with the interaction between  two “transregional” worlds\, a “Sanskrit” world and a “Persianate” one\, showing that what we call “Indian” today is a blend of several cultures and sub-cultures. What emerges is the portrait of a social landscape at an economic and cultural level rather than a political history of kings\, kingdoms and conquests. In other words\, what it was like to have been living as an ordinary person during that period \nAbout the Author: Richard Maxwell Eaton is a Professor of History at the University of Arizona\, specialising in the social and cultural history of pre-modern India (1000-1800). This is his latest book. \nAbout the Presenter: An alumna of Lady Shri Ram College and Miranda House\, Runa Mukherjee has had a career in the civil services and corporate sector. Reading and art have been her abiding interests. \n\nZoom  Details      https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87684837354?pwd=MHE5MldXUjVYbEptMmUvamZtSSs5Zz09 \nMeeting ID: 876 8483 7354   Passcode: BookClub

SUMMARY:The Magnificent Tigers of India
DESCRIPTION:THE MAGNIFICENT TIGERS OF INDIA\nABOUT THE PROGRAM \nVipul will take us through the landscape of central India\, and Kanha in particular\, to learn about the symbiotic relationship of forest dwelling communities and the forests\, and how it is threatened. Vipul also suggests ways to nurture it back\, so that the generations after us can continue to enjoy nature the way God intended. \nVipul will also speak about how working as a wildlife photographer has changed him as a person\, and about the community development work he is doing through his NGO- Earth Focus Foundation. \nThe program is filled with pictures and anecdotes and how Vipul developed a very powerful connection to the world of Tigers\, nature and the forest dwelling communities. \nWe recommend viewing on a computer screen or tab to best enjoy the dramatic photographs. \nABOUT THE PRESENTER \nMechanical engineer by education\, entrepreneur at heart\, Vipul is an ardent nature lover and keen wildlife and nature photographer. \nHe has observed the breakdown of the relationship which man has with bio diversity\, and believes that unless this beautiful relationship is restored\, Tigers\, which are at the apex of the food chain\, will vanish\, and so will our forests. \nVipul now lends his strategic skills\, and experience in leading people to address community-oriented development issues for tribal families in Kanha National Park. He has founded Earth Focus Kanha (earthfocus.in)\, where the mission is to empower forest dwelling communities through contextual education and nature-based livelihoods\, and thereby preserve our bio-diversity. \n \n  \n\n\n\n \nDate :  Saturday \,  Aug 21\, 2021\nTime:  07:00 PM India
