Visions & Voices’ Workshop

22nd June 2016, Wednesday

The workshop took place in two parts:

Part #1 | Retelling Your Story & Healing Through Expressive Art

Using concepts from Jungian psychology, Zen, tantric tradition, shamanism and samurai philosophy, the individual is put in an experiential situation to relive a certain a memory of a safe environment and is immediately given a creative tool to express the frustration. The facilitator or guide helps the individual by encouraging them to look beyond the words and accept these raw feelings as important voices. We live in a world where we are constantly forced to brush everything under the carpet, leading to repression. Individuals will also be part of an experiential exercise where many would come to realize that they too can hear their own voices, wherein hearing voices is not necessarily a symptom of mental illness but a part of the collective unconscious forcing us to evolve.

Part #2 | Body Movement Exercises

Using concepts from Tai Chi Yoga and other martial arts, this exercise will open the door to the music of our environment and converting negative blockages into constructive energy. The body-brain relationship has long been studied by Western medical sciences, yet it remains limited in many ways. By the end of the workshop, participants will be empowered to retell their own stories of trauma and find their own ways of healing.
