Gyaan Ruchi celebrated its first anniversary with an artistic programme on 7th January. Women from three Gyaan Ruchi centres in Kothrud and Shivaji Nagar took the day off from their busy working lives to showcase their talent and creativity.
In a year, Gyaan Ruchi has expanded to six centres around Pune and touched more than 120 lives. Gyaan Ruchi strives towards women empowerment through literature, education and the arts. Libraries have been set up at the various centres and reading and art activities are encouraged.
The women from the three centres that travelled to Gyaan Adab were brimming with excitement and dressed up for the occasion. With beautiful costumes, some of the women showcased their dance skills. From Bollywood to Koli dance, their energy was infectious and the audience was clapping and moving to the beats. The women from Sagar Colony centre demonstrated traditional art of games. There was also a play that highlighted the importance of the girl child. Story telling through puppetry was an enjoyable experience for the audience.
Mrs. Nasima Merchant and Mrs. Nilofer Tyrewala who have been instrumental at Gyaan Ruchi, felicitated the supervisors at the different centres and Mr. Jitendra Maid for his unwavering support.
The programme highlighted self-expression and creativity. It also helped in bolstering confidence for these women, some of them who hadn’t left their homes for more than 20 years! They were overwhelmed and grateful for the opportunity. The heartwarming evening came to an end with tea and gifts.
